Press Release: Boston Partners in Education Names John Heveran as Board Chairman
Boston, MA – June 23, 2022 – Boston Partners in Education (BPIE), a nonprofit that supports Boston Public Schools (BPS) students through academic mentoring services, appoints John Heveran, the EVP & CIO of Global Risk Solutions at Liberty Mutual Insurance, as the new Chair of its Board of Directors, effective June 15th.
Heveran replaces Michael McKenna, Senior Client Partner at DMI. McKenna will remain on the BPIE Board of Directors after serving as Board Chairman for more than six years. During his tenure, McKenna helped guide the organization through several major milestones including a leadership transition and creation of the organization’s first online mentoring model to continue reaching students during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the new Board Chairman, Heveran looks forward to increasing the number of students reached through in-person and online mentoring support.
“I’m excited to step into the Chair role at a time of immense opportunity and growth for a nearly 60 year-old organization,” said Heveran. “Our immediate goals include a commitment to recruiting more mentors who share the backgrounds and experiences of our students, increasing our remote offerings to provide more one-on-one, out-of-school-time support, and providing our volunteer academic mentors with excellent training to prepare them for their work in the classroom.”
Erin McGrath, BPIE Executive Director, believes Heveran is poised to usher in a new era for Boston Partners in Education.
“After two very unique school years, this Board transition arrives right as we’ve acclimated our mentors back into classrooms,” said McGrath. “It’s the perfect time for us to refresh our strategic planning and rebuild our rhythm, so we can provide students with the consistency in the classroom that was so elusive these past few years. I can’t wait to see what the future holds with a long standing supporter like John Heveran at the helm.”
Boston Partners’ 25-member board plays a vital role in the success of the organization by providing critical guidance, ideas, and financial support, and by serving as ambassadors in the community. You can learn more about the organization’s mentoring programs at bostonpartners.org.
