Building a pipeline of diverse, engaged and talented individuals to join our Board of Directors is essential to carrying out our mission.

BPIE Board of Directors – Executive Committee

John Heveran

BPIE Board Chairman • SVP & CIO of Global Risk Solutions, Liberty Mutual Insurance

Why I Partner: My mother was a teacher when I was little, and it always inspired me. Now my wife and oldest son are both passionate about education and reading, which remains my ongoing inspiration. Their work and my commitment to Boston fuel my passion for BPIE and its mission.

Jay Shuman

BPIE Board Vice Chairman • Independent Consultant & Adjunct Lecturer – Accounting, Regis College

Why I Partner: The children are our future. I am incredibly honored to be a part of an organization where the focus (and ultimate goal) is the education and needs of our school children – to ensure they are equipped for success.

Grant Simpson

BPIE Board Treasurer • Vice President, Finance & Operations, Beautiful Destinations

Why I Partner: My mom was a public school teacher, and I was a public school student. I believe that every young person deserves access to mentorship and support to help them to achieve their academic potential. My participation with BPIE as a Board Member and volunteer academic mentor gives me the opportunity to do my small part towards that goal.

Andrew Thorne

BPIE Board Clerk • Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP

Why I Partner: My parents were working class and both had to leave school as teens without finishing high school. For that reason they pushed their kids hard to get a good education, and education has always been important to me.

Lena Bottos

Heather Brack

Why I Partner: After serving as an academic mentor, I was inspired to served as a member of the Boston Partners in Education Board of Directors. I saw firsthand the impact this work had on kids and I wanted to do more.

Beth Gragg

Why I Partner: I believe that when a mentor shows up, shows they care, builds a relationship with a student and helps the student improve their skills and increase knowledge, the student’s confidence is boosted. The impact of that self-confidence lasts an entire lifetime, long after the student graduates from school.

Lauren Heerlein

Why I Partner: As a lover of art growing up and now an artist, mentoring in math gave me confidence to continue building that skillset – and every student deserves mentors to help them improve in their skillset of choice.

Why I Partner: After observing the inequities among students and their access to learning support, I felt compelled to partner with BPIE as I supported their efforts in this arena.
