Join Our Team: AmeriCorps Mentoring Advocate Program
Boston Partners in Education (BPIE) is seeking an AmeriCorps Mentoring Advocate to serve as the Community Engagement Coordinator for 2022-2023. The Advocate’s primary goals will be to review and recommend suggestions to increase community and family engagement and agency, towards mentee recruitment, strengthening our partnerships with teachers and schools, allowing us to better communicate our mission, and recruit more student mentees. The Advocate will also continue to build our capacity in community outreach, mentor recruitment, and family engagement. Finally, the Advocate will continue the work from 2021/2022 to build upon our volunteer engagement strategies and increase our match support capacity while serving with a close knit team.
About AmeriCorps
AmeriCorps is a national community service program that gives people an opportunity to apply their skills and ideals towards helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. The AmeriCorps Advocates of Mentoring is an AmeriCorps Program where members serve mentoring programs across Massachusetts to strengthen their capacity to run robust mentorship programs.
Project Responsibilities
- Conduct and support recruitment of volunteers to increase the number of students served, particularly in Roxbury, Dorchester, East Boston and Mattapan through a variety of online postings, recruitment fairs, and neighborhood events
- Helping to build a more robust system through salesforce tracking for volunteer engagement and ongoing training support throughout volunteers’ mentoring
- Interviewing and matching new potential volunteers
- Implementing our community outreach and mentor recruitment strategies, through maintaining our online presence, attending in person events and raising community awareness and connectedness
- Research and recommend strategies for student engagement in the matching as well as match support process in order to have a higher quality of matches
- Research and recommend strategies for family outreach for the newest program, Independent Learning Support
- Participate in monthly corps-wide training and events
- Complete required monthly AMA documentation, including evaluation reports and timesheets
Qualifications
- Experience with and/or commitment to youth and/or community development
- A passion for volunteerism and community service
- Cultural Sensitivity/experience working in/with diverse communities
- Familiarity with Boston and/or Boston Public Schools
- Bilingualism preferred in English and one of the following languages: Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese; not mandatory
- Strong writing and editing skills
Proficiency with Google G Suite applications - Interest in nonprofit organizations and their development
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident
- Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry, and a fingerprint-based FBI check. *Eligibility to participate in the AAoM program is contingent on the results of this screening
- BA/BS degree is strongly preferred, or equivalent experience
