AmeriCorps Ambassador of Mentoring
Mass Mentoring Partnership AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring supports mentoring because every young person in Massachusetts deserves access to quality mentoring relationships – regardless of who they are and where they live. AOMs serve youth-serving organizations across the state by strengthening mentor recruitment, matching, and training; establishing community partnerships; coordinating marketing campaigns; and improving program design.
MA will have a vibrant and active network of mentoring and youth-serving providers sharing best practices and raising their voices to advocate for youth. MMP serves more than 370 programs statewide, supporting over 30,000 youth in quality relationships.
Position Description:
Boston Partners in Education (Boston Partners) is seeking an Ambassador of Mentoring to serve as the Community Engagement Coordinator for 2021-2022. The Ambassador’s primary goals will be to review and recommend suggestions to increase youth and family engagement and agency, towards mentee recruitment, strengthening our partnerships with teachers and schools, allowing us to better communicate our mission, and recruit more student mentees. The Ambassador will also continue to build our capacity in community outreach, mentor recruitment, and family engagement. Finally, the Ambassador will continue the work from 2020/2021 to build upon our volunteer engagement strategies and increase our match support capacity.
Project Responsibilities
- Conduct and support recruitment of volunteers to increase the number of students served, particularly in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan through a variety of online postings, recruitment fairs, and neighborhood events
- Helping to build a more robust system for volunteer engagement and ongoing training support throughout volunteers’ mentoring
- Interviewing and matching new potential volunteers
- Implementing our community outreach and mentor recruitment strategies, through maintaining our online presence and raising community awareness and connectedness
- Research and recommend strategies for student engagement in the matching as well as match support process in order to have a higher quality of matches
- Research and recommend strategies for family outreach for the new online Independent Learning Support program
- Participate in monthly corps-wide training and events
- Complete required monthly AAoM documentation, including evaluation reports and timesheets
Qualifications:
- Experience with and/or commitment to youth development
- A passion for volunteerism and community service
- Cultural Sensitivity/experience working in/with diverse communities
- Bilingualism preferred in English and one of the following languages including Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese; not mandatory
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Proficiency with Google G Suite applications
- Interest in nonprofit organizations and their development
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident
- Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry, and a fingerprint-based FBI check. *Eligibility to participate in the AAoM program is contingent on the results of this screening
- BA/BS degree is strongly preferred, or equivalent experience
- A passion for volunteerism and community service

For an eleven-month, full-time commitment and 1,700 hours of AmeriCorps service Fellows receive:
