Boston Partners in Education Appoints Erin McGrath to Executive Director
Boston, MA – December 19, 2017 – Boston Partners in Education, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting students in the Boston Public Schools (BPS) through in-classroom academic mentoring services, is pleased to announce that Erin McGrath has been appointed Executive Director starting January 1, 2018. With 11 years’ experience in nonprofit program management, McGrath will lead the organization’s more than 500 volunteer academic mentors currently serving more than 3,700 BPS students.
“Sixteen years ago, I fell in love with the mission and work of Boston Partners in Education. It is a personal and professional honor to have been chosen to lead this phenomenal organization,” said McGrath. “I am excited to continue working with the Board, our management and staff, corporate partners, and donors to deepen our school partnerships, engage more volunteers, and ultimately serve more students in the Boston Public Schools.”

McGrath has volunteered with Boston Partners in Education since 2001, and in 2006 she joined the organization as Power Lunch Program Manager. Since 2008, she has been Boston Partners’ Program Director, overseeing volunteer programs on both strategic and tactical levels, designing and implementing processes to improve match quality, and building the organization’s capacity to serve more BPS students.
Before joining Boston Partners, McGrath served as Accreditations Program Coordinator at Hay Group, Inc., a global management consulting firm in Boston, where she maintained the accredited trainer network and enrolled clients and assisted in post-program orders. McGrath brings excellent interpersonal and mentorship skills to her new position as Executive Director, drawing on 15 years’ cumulative experience as an English Second Language Tutor for Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts and a Lead English Tutor at Boston Latin School’s Saturday Success School.
An Arlington resident, McGrath earned her Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis in writing from Hartwick College. She is a proud alumna of the Boston Center for Community and Justice’s LeadBoston program, and in 2016 she received a certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life at Tufts University through the Institute for Nonprofit Practice.

Founded in 1966, Boston Partners in Education (Boston Partners) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students in the Boston Public Schools (BPS) through in-classroom academic mentoring services. We are a longstanding and trusted partner of BPS, responding and adapting to the needs of students and their teachers. We prepare volunteers of all ages and backgrounds from Boston’s diverse neighborhoods to serve as academic mentors to students. Our trained academic mentors work with students directly in the classroom during the school day for at least an hour each week. This consistent support helps any student fill academic gaps and build the self-confidence necessary to achieve their goals.
