“My tutor is my friend. She not only helps me understand English and Math but we can talk about anything. She made me believe that I can succeed in anything I really wish to accomplish.”
-- Beatrice, Dorchester Education Complex Student
Through the committed work of our volunteers, students achieved the following:
- On average, GPAs of students participating in our Math Rules! program improved in math by 18.3% and overall by 12.7%.
- 100% of 11th and 12th grade students tutored in math at Boston Community Leadership Academy passed the math MCAS exam--a requirement for graduation.
- 80% of seventh- and eighth-graders surveyed who had participated in Power Lunch as elementary students reported that they continue to read for fun outside of school. 90% reported that Power Lunch changed their attitude toward reading, and 100% would recommend Power Lunch to other students.

Expected outcomes for students participating in our programs include:
- Increased interest in academics
- Improved academic performance in math and English Language Arts
- Increased self-confidence
- Improved habits of mind (purpose, flexible thinking, communicating clearly, taking risks, demonstrating social responsibility and making connections/finding relevance)
The extra attention students receive during the school day is crucial. Their improved academic success and their increased self-confidence could be the factor that convinces them to stay in school and graduate!
